Jason Tanaka, who was born and raised on the island of O’ahu, later moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2005. Jason started doing jiujitsu at the age of 19 with New Life BJJ in Kohala. He started teaching in 2013 when he received his brown belt by multiple time world champion, Robson Moura. After years of teaching and passing down the knowledge of Brazilian jiu-jitsu from his fellow colleagues, he decided to open up his own academy in Kailua Kona. From that point on, he made a decision to be affiliated with Professor Clark Gracie.

Jason is very passionate about making sure his students learn technique and to respect the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Also he wants to make sure the students can take care of themselves in real life situations outside of the academy, so that they are always ready, aware, and confident their ability to defend themselves.
