About Christopher Serrell
Professor Chris started his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) journey in 2005 under the tutelage of Mica Cipili in Las Vegas, NV. Professor Mica is an accomplished competitor and his team is arguably the best in Las Vegas, consistently competing and winning in local, national, and international competitions.
Shortly after receiving his blue belt Professor Chris moved to Denver, CO where he started training under Professor Dave Ruiz. Professor Dave is one of the few American born students to study BJJ under Grandmaster Helio Gracie, one of the co-founders/creators of BJJ.
When Professor Chris moved to Upstate NY he was already a brown belt and had been training for about 7 years. He found an academy to train in run by accomplished Renzo Gracie black belt, Professor Bruno Tostes. Professor Bruno’s passion for his family, BJJ, and life is genuine and infectious. Professor Bruno and his team are the ones who made it possible for Professor Chris to be awarded his black belt.
Finally, Professor Chris moved to San Diego in 2015 and started training with Clark Gracie and his team. Professor Clark is an accomplished black belt still competing and winning major tournaments and super-fights around the world. San Diego County has, arguably, the best BJJ in the world and, Professor Chris was thoroughly impressed with the instruction, training, and atmosphere of Professor Clarks’ academy, which is why he started training at Clark Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Professor Chris is excited to be a part of Clark Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Vista program, he emphasizes strong fundamentals and practical usage of techniques. Sparring or ‘rolling’ is an important part of the learning process and is included in the majority of classes as it allows the student to implement techniques that they have been taught with an ‘uncooperative’ partner.
